Great Circle Map

Our Globe Rotates Over the Poles

Every other mapping app pins the globe to the Earth's axis and treats the poles as the edge of the world. Airplanes don't. Great Circle Map rotates freely in every direction, so you can follow a polar route exactly the way it is flown.

Two airport codes and the route appears, measured leg by leg. Double-tap anywhere for waypoints of your own, as many as the route needs.

Two typed codes, a route over the pole, and a shareable map in about half a minute.

Free Rotation Over the Poles

Google Maps and the rest fix the globe around the Earth's axis, so a polar route always slides sideways off the top of the screen. Great Circle Map has no fixed axis. Drag straight over either pole and keep going.

Find Any Airport on Earth

Type an IATA code, an ICAO code, or a city name. Every strip with a code is in there, and two airports are all it takes to see the great circle and its distance.

Every Leg Measured

Distance labels ride along each leg with its initial bearing, and the running total stays pinned at the top. Units switch between km, nm, and mi anytime.

Waypoints Anywhere on Earth

The map is tappable. Double-tap any point on the globe to create a waypoint there, and double-tap the waypoint again to delete it. There is no limit on how many you add.

Share the Polar Route

A globe is for exploring, and a flat map is for sharing. Create Map unrolls the route into a clean flat image, polar legs and all, ready to send or save.

Weather at Every Waypoint

Each waypoint shows current conditions, temperature, and wind in knots, so you know what the air is doing along the whole route.

Routes Remembered

History saves your recent routes automatically and recreates any of them with one tap, which you will appreciate after entering a route with a dozen waypoints.

Nothing Tracking You

No analytics, no account, and no ads. Your routes stay on your device, and the only network request the app makes is for the weather.

Satellite or Relief, Your Call

NASA Blue Marble satellite imagery for the real view from above, or the Natural Earth relief map when terrain is what matters. One tap in the layers menu switches between them, and the same menu flips the camera between the Normal and flat Ortho projections.

Native on the Mac

Great Circle Map is a real Mac app, not a website in a window. The globe fills a resizable window with the route panel alongside it, driven by the same engine as the phone, and one App Store purchase covers iPhone, iPad, and Mac.

Learn It in Five Minutes

The guide walks through every feature with a screenshot, from your first polar spin to sharing a finished route map.
